Water - whither?
The next Cafe Chew (August) will be devoted entirely to the subject of water.
It is a hot topic locally and will be nationally too with the Murray Darling Water Management Plan due in the next few weeks and the interest groups are lining up to stake their claims.
I have attached a couple of documents to help those who are interested become better informed so that our discussion can be more fruitful.
The first of these is highly recommended. Sarah Ryan, from CSIRO, looks at the true price of a gold ring as she exlores in depth all of the processes at the Cadia Gold mine, near Orange, involved in making that ring.

Another item is a copy of an article in a local paper about the plans to build a massive dam to maintain water supplies to Orange, paid for by us, the tax payers.

The final attachment reviews the parlous state of water in our landscape on the whole world view. Though floods rage through much of Asia and Europe at present, the underlying threat to water supply is massive.

The environment has few who will speak up for its needs and yet for those of us with a bit of science background or from long observation of nature will attest to the fundamental part water plays in the life cycle of all plants and creatures and that the threat to even greater loss of biodiversity is a "clear and present danger", though sadly not so clear to most of our politicians.
