BCCAN is supporting the Nature Conservation Council's petition
Please download and print the petition for parliament and collect as many signatures as possible by Friday, 30 September.
The following is extracted from the NCC's website:
The NSW Premier has pledged that the 'People's Parliament' will debate an issue if 10,000 signatures are gathered on a petition.
We think it would be great to see our political leaders debate the urgent need to better protect our communities, water supplies, environment and productive farmland from mining and polluting industries.
We invite you to play a part in getting 10,000 signatures on this important petition
The three central asks are:
1. Reform legislation to strengthen the protection of our natural heritage, including biodiversity and geodiversity, from extractive and polluting industries.
2. Identify areas that should be off limits to mining and gas activities, including our valuable agricultural land, bush land, drinking water supplies and underground aquifers.
3. Reform legislation to protect the health and well-being of local communities from extractive and polluting industries and develop a stronger monitoring and compliance regime for mining and gas activities to protect human health.
We encourage your group to speak about how these three asks will help your local campaign and be sure to let people who sign know that their signature will help to get a debate happening in parliament.
