What are the pros and cons of the government and opposition on climate change

I am really confused.
I know the government has an emissions trading scheme that is not getting the backing of the Greens or the conservative parties and now the Opposition has come up with a scheme which seems to be about planting trees and putting more solar panels on roofs.
Does somebody have a grasp of the merits or othewise of these schemes?
